Dumb intonation question

When a string is in tune with the tuner, but is shown as sharp when fretted at the 12th fret, do I move the moveable bridge for that string towards the headstock or towards the tail peg?

Toward the bridge, thus making the string longer.

"tail peg"? You must have started on upright bass, eh?

Sharp move to bridge.
Flat move to nut.

I remember it by associating "flat nuts". Weird, but works for me.
