i have a five string fender jazz bass (squier)

i wanna swap out my BEADG strings for an EADGc setup.

would there be any problem with doing this? besides needing different gauge strings?

thanks

Truss rod may need adjusted. The notches in the nut will be a little oversized and your bridge saddle heights may need adjusted. I'd string it up and see if you notice any problems. Technically all those things would need adjusted, but in the real world they may not matter much.

you could probably pull it off with only a little adjustment- I string my 4 string fender as ADGC and the main thing I have to worry about is setting the intonation

for sure the nut and saddles.
dont think the truss rod would need tooo much adjusting.
was thinking of jus getting a heavy set so it wasnt so noticable.

but if it waas i'm unsure of how i could make the notches on the nut smaller.

haha, yeah that set-up is a way for me to keep playing my fender as my lecompte kinda took over the roll as my main bass.

it's pretty fun to mess around with melodic stuff, - victor wooten has one of his basses set-up in a similar way for solo playing (refers to it as his 'tenor bass')

I usually rely on juststrings.com - you can order individual strings from the same company for really cheap

You can get a set of four and then a single from a lot of places; check juststrings.com or musiciansfriend.com if your local guitar store doesn't carry singles.

You can't other than filling the slots with epoxy. I used match sticks in an emergency ( nut broke off at the G string at a gig.) The best bet would be a corian or bone blank and filing new slots. I would use the old one as a template to keep the radius correct, but make the slots narrower. That said I've never made that switch, but I plan to convert my un-used Carvin Bunny Burnel bass 5 to E A D G C till I can find a good 6er for a decent price.

I use Tom Appel at http://bassguitarstrings.us/store/home.php

I really like the Thomastic Super Alloy set with the additional being a .030 for the C.

You can try this without cutting a new but but if it takes - you'll want that new nut to get the bass playing as well as it can. It doesn't cost that much and might be the difference between workable and sweet ...

Check juststrings.com. Don't know if separates or EADG + C is cheaper.
