I need some help...
My Musicman plays beautifully everywhere except the first fret on my A string. It will not produce the note, but, it will give me a horrible buzzy rattle and has absolutely no sustain on that note. This is the only issue with bass. I'd hate to part with it due to one fret issue on 1 string...
any helpful ideas??? |

If the fret is worn, it must be replaced- just that one fret. If adjacent frets are too high they can be adjusted. |

EDIT: beat me to it

Normally I can solve simple issues like this, but this one got me good.

If it's cut low can you insert a piece of paper or something similar in the slot to see if it alleviates the problem???
It's an issue I personally have yet to encounter.
Thanks for all the help thus far... |

Thanks for all the help thus far... | Typically, a nut cut too low only creates problems when playing the OPEN string. |
