Question EB3 Drama!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey, sweet forum you guys have here! I just bought an Epiphone EB3 and let me start by saying the look of this bass is INSANE!! I've had many complements about it. but not all is good, I have had two of these basses where the Machine heads & Bridge actually pull out of the wood and they have had to be glued in (maybe a design fault) but that doesn't bother me that the joints look a little shoddy thats rock :P

But what I am having trouble with the E & A strings buzzing like crazy unless you set the height up really high making it a bit awkward to play is this normal & if not how do I fix it? and this last question is easy, on the website it says the epiphone eb3 is a 34" (long scale) bass so can long scale strings fit on it or not? Ive had people tell me yes and no so i thought I'd ask here. So 2 things

1. is the eb3 String height meant to be crazily high to stop the buzz or is there something I am missing eg. wrong setup

2. Can Long scale strings be used on the EB3

Thanks for any help it has been 2 weeks of pain trying to get this to play decent!

to determine the scale, measure from the nut to the 12th fret and then double it. a 34" scale bass would measure 17" from nut to 12th fret.
maybe you should have it setup by your local tech if you're having trouble with it. sounds like the trussrod needs adjusting.

I suggest that you measure from the nut to the 12th fret to make sure you get the right strings. the epiphone site (as well as others) can sometimes be mistaken. they did make both 34" and 30.5" EB basses, but I don't remember which models were which scale. it's easy enough to verify.

setups generally run $30-50 around here (maryland). you can also check the sticky at the top of this forum if you want to give it a shot. I've done my own setups on most of my basses, the rickenbacker being the exception, and it's not terribly difficult. after you get the hang of it, it's no big deal. if you need help with the 3 point bridge, ask away.

Yea I measured the frets and it is 17" so alls good I was looking at short scale string prices and they were harder to get cause I'm from a town abit away from everywhere :P I had a go trying to straighten and then giving the neck relief but I just couldn't get it to sound right, it is really off I think by the amount of buzz so I'll leave it to the pros! Thanks for the help
