| Ebony Fingerboard Crack

I just got an used 1992 4-string "boutique-brand" bass, with a dovetail neck joint, ebony board and abalone inlays.
The bass was setup up north and shipped to me down south. The sales/repair person performed an A+ fret dressing job and moved the truss rod slightly to make the board flat, per my request.
Upon receiving the bass, I noticed several cracks in the ebony board, one around the nut and the 1st fret and several other from the 14th to the 23rd fret. Some people tell me that ebony boards may dry and crack; I assume that adjusting the truss rod, even slightly, was the actual reason for the cracking in this case. My question is: should I send the bass to get repaired, to seal the cracks to prevent future damage and to prevent humidity to get in there, or should I leave it alone and let the wood move?
There is no structural damage yet and the bass plays like a dream - I just want to prevent further damage.
Thanks. |
