I have an old Hondo II P-copy that had a badly warped neck. I pulled the neck off and made a fireplace poker out of it.
I now play a slim, pleasantly nasal Ibanez SR800 that I like just fine, but I still have this big baboonass-purple bass body with a DiMarzio split-P that is giving off some fond memories (or fantasies, it must be admitted). I'm thinking of trying to resurrect it.
Even if the neck had been good, the Precision shape was a bit large for me, so I'm eyeing this cheap no name Jazz style neck on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=270095797509
If it weren't for the tempting notion of getting a Jazz neck on a P, I would just buy an SX, and be done with it, but the idea is sort of stuck in my head now.
Is there any chance that this cheap neck will be any better than the original cudgel that was on the Hondo II? Has anybody ever tried one of the "samsguitarshop" necks?
Is there any chance that I'll be able to fit it onto the Hondo II body? I'm no luthier, but I do a bit of woodworking. The Hondo seems to be a shameless copy of a Fender Precision (with the truss rod adjustment at the butt end), so maybe?
Should I just shut up and go practice?

I'm not trying to discourage you , but if it were I, I'd look for a cheaper neck.
If you need woodworking help, lemme know.
Cheers!

Maybe I should ask my wife what I should do. No, wait...

I just bought an SX block inlay neck and, while a little sloppy from close up is a very nice playing neck. I'm sure I'm not the only guy on this board with a spare SX neck sitting around, either. |

The block neck is about $75 with shipping. Neither is a bad deal. I don't know if the cheaper neck is finished, though. |

BTW, I noticed that someone bought that neck. Was it you? |
