Electrical Buzzing Question

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok, on my 4 string, when I'm not touching any metal part of my bass, wether it be the strings, the tuners, the knobs, or the bridge, there's a buzzing sound... when I do touch a metal part, it makes a small popping noise and then the buzzing stops...

I know this is obviously a grounding problem, and I've tried to fix it via the ground switch on my amp but to no good... so, it's obviously a problem with the bass itself... anyone know a simple way to fix this?

Yes. Open up the bass. Be it by taking off the Pickguard or if its active, taking off the back plate.

Grab a trusty soldering iron and resolder all the connection to the BACK of the pots. On the body or sometimes on the top of the body.

There is a wire that goes from this area to the bridge. It does require removing the bridge but thats only some screws. Undo them, and check this wire. Its hard to solder down but just cleaning it up and making sure it makes good contact with the bridge is the key.
