Elrick JJ grounding issue

Sign in to disble this ad
Well, I thought it was my amp...but it seems my bass is not grounded. It does the typical hum when you dont touch the strings or bridge. I opened up the cavity and didn't see and wire comming from the bridge grounding it to the output jack.

Had anyone else had a problem like this with their Elrick? I told Rob about it and he blamed my amp. It just seems like it needs a bridge ground....any suggestions on a easy fix?

Have you checked to make sure the bridge is normally grounded on your make and model instrument? All basses don't require a bridge ground. Is there a hole from the cavity toward the bridge or is it undrilled?

Yea, I dont see a hole comming from the bridge. I really dont want to start drilling this bass either. Its weird that it does hum tho,

One of my student has an Elrick JJ and it also hums. It also has the lowest output I've seen from any active bass.

My Elrick JJ was grounded, as are all of my current Elricks. Did you buy it new or used? Used always opens up the possibility that somebody futzed with it.

What is the internal trim pot set at? I keep mine completely flat so that they're the same output when active as when passive (barring EQ use), but they're all capable of quite a high output (has to do with the preamp, not the bass itself).

I bought it used but from the orig owner and he didn't say he messed with anything. When I looked into the cavity everything totally looks stock. I can see no bridge ground comming for the bridge. Would it be smart to somehow get one installed?

I do have the trip pot set up around 9 to 10 o'clock (if my memory serves me well).

man....im having all kinds of gear trouble....help somebody!!!!
