Epi EB3 loose tuner bushings

Sign in to disble this ad
I just picked up this bass a couple of days ago, wasn't expecting too much for the price but was pleasantly surprised overall. My problem is that there is one tuner bushing that really wants to slide out. My other problem is that the tone knobs have no effect and the volume only has an effect for the first one eight to quarter turn. I believe the linear pots were put on the volumes and the audio tapers were put on the tones. Should I bother fixing it myself or bring it back to the stealership and have them work on it.

Thanks

Didn't play it before buying? If it's new, I'd take it back. Used? I'd handle it myself.

I purchased mine used...same problems...took out the soldering iron...new pots sound a ton better. The tuners I tightened up and they hold tune great. Mine is great for lugging around to lessons. It's a good bass with a bit of potential if you're willing to work it into shape.

Yep, bought it new. Did not see the bushing till after I got it home. Was not to concerned about the volume and tone problem. Opened it up today and swapped the pots and they work great now. Did a little searching and reading and I am gonna try and tighten up the bushings with some epoxy and see how that goes.

If you use epoxy, don't get carried away. You may have to remove that bushing some day - use a MINIMAL amount of glue so that you don't weld it in permanently.

It's hard to foresee the future - leave yourself options.

if you're going to use epoxy, apply it to the hole in the headstock and let it cure before installing the bushing. you just want to make it so the bushing fits snuggly in place and can be removed if necessary.
