Epi T-bird bridge

Sign in to disble this ad
I played an Epi goth T-bird at GC yesterday (I know, GC sucks, I only go there for strings) this is the first time I've ever really played one and I kinda liked it. It had mediocre-at-best gibson strings so I couldn't get the full effect of the tone. I have a question about the bridge. I've heard stories about the 3-point bridge tilting upward from the string pull. How relevant is this problem and how can it be fixed? I've seen badass bridges on gibsons but I don't see how it would clear the strings over the pups and neck on the epi. Would any other bridges work? Also, Is it true that the electronics just "die" after awhile? I know, that sounds ridiculous, but I've heard it before. One more thing, the one i played had a 1/8" gap between the end of the fretboard and the body at the neck joint like the neck was bent backward, but the strings pups were still perfectly parallel to the neck, is that gap normal? Thanks.

I've never seen a 3 point bridge tilt unless the studs have been badly adjusted or if the threaded inserts start to pull out of the body. in fact, the reason it has 3 studs is to prevent tilting. on the other hand, the Gibson 2 point bridge (no longer in production) will tilt forward if one does not loosen the set screws before adjusting the height, which is fairly common.

regarding the electronics, the pots on the Epiphones are not the best quality and can sound scratchy over time. they can be easily replaced with CTS pots for a long lasting fix.

don't know about the neck issue without seeing it. if will GC let you return it, you could buy it and then have a tech or luthier that you trust take look at it.

let us know how it turns out.
