Epiphone T-Bird problem...please help :(

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys, i was just wondering if any of you could help me.

Basically, i've my Thunderbird a little over a a year now and the other day i had a little accident and spilt a very small amount of liquid (can't remember what i was drinking at the time) over it.

Ever since then, it just hasn't sounded right and i just can't find the reason why.

I thought it might have been the spillage incident so i took the pick ups out and everything seemed fine. Also, it doesn't sound right even when played unplugged so i don't think it's this. I think the spillage incident was just a coincidence.

Next i thought maybe it was the strings but i figured strings can't just go dead over night so it can't be this either.

I'm thinking maybe it's the bridge? Maybe the strings aren't sitting right or something?

Anyway, where before it sounded bright and vibrant, now it sounds hollow and lacks sustain. This guitar is my pride and joy and need to get her back to her prime.

Please...any suggestions or info would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I recently put a set of cheap strings on, and the A and B died quick. So it could be strings. In fact, if its an acoustic problem, its the first thing I'd change out.

I'm thinking it must be either the bridge or the strings.

Thanks alot for your help. I may as well look into getting a new set of strings on it. Even if that isn't the problem, it can't hurt to have a few spares laying around.

Take a minute to look carefully at the neck. I find that I have to adjust for the weather.

Hi.

Yet another vote for the strings being the issue.

Change the strings. If that doesn't work, have a fiddle with action/intonation and the truss rod, see of that doesn't help. About a year or so ago my Epi had a similar issue, and a proper set-up and fresh strings did wonders for the sound.

And on the subject of spilling things:
- Beer
- Cider
- Blood
- Anti-freeze
- Deoderant
- Coke
- Jam

Thanks alot guys. I'll order a new set of strings on pay day. Might try flats for a change. If this isn't the problem i'll have to look into getting it properly checked out.

Thanks again.

If you're going to switch to flats, you'll undoubtedly need the bass setup, so this will be an opportune time to do it.

New strings can make an old bass sound new again.

That, and with flats Epis have two sounds:
- Warm, buttery, smooth, luscious goodness that's perfect for Motown or the Stones.
- Pure Earth-shattering THUNDER for bands like Spiritual Beggars.
