Epiphone Thunderbird Goth Paint

Sign in to disble this ad
Thanks again guys for the help with the nitrocellulose lacquer question. Was wondering if anyone might know anything about the paint used on the Epiphone Thunderbird Goth.

While I'm waiting for my chip repair job to setup/cure I thought I'd take a look at the only other small repair that' I've been wanting to try. A goth that has a nice scratch in its front face.

The scratch is shallow enough that with a very light sanding on/around it and my airbrush I should be able to blend the scratch away. Question is, does anyone know what type of paint they used on these?

Thanks!

Only thing I can add is that it's Flat Black, and not Gloss Black (going by pics only, might be wrong....again )

A small amount of chalk dust added to gloss black will result in flat black if you have trouble finding flat in the type/shade you want.

You may need to adjust the amount of dust you add so do a little R&D on scrap until you get what you want before doing the actual repair.

No, you're right. It's a a flat black. It reminds me a lot of the flat black Rat Rod automotive paints, just in the look.

Thanks FHM. I was thinking more along the lines of what type paint (sorry if I wasn't clear). Enamel, acrylic, acrylic-enamel, urethane, etc.

Right now I'm thinking a simple flat black water-based acrylic will do the job.

The ThunderBird I have just recently purchased used has 2 chips in it, you can see the wood, I am too looking into what type of paint I can use to cover it up.
Any ideas?
