Epoxy finishing both sides of a fretless neck

Sign in to disble this ad
I know a lot of people use the Epoxy finish for the fingerboard side of the neck with the defret their cheap fretted, so I was wondering if anyone has any insight on the possibility of epoxy finishing the entire neck.

I understand that Epoxy is kind of hard to work with, so I understand the temptation for a lot of you to say "Why the **** would you do that?"

So, are there really any advantages, disadvantages, really bad problems that will be caused by epoxy finishing both the front band back of the neck of my bass when I defret it? I just don't really have any interest in trying to leave a crease where the finish changes from Epoxy on the front to poly on the back. (Poly is common and good for the back side of the neck also, right?)

it's too thick to work with on the back of the neck and sets too fast. it's not a smart idea. keep in mind that when you do the fretboard, you don't need to slather it on. couple thin coats is the way to go. far as the edges of the board go, one thin coat should suffice to seal the wood. if you end up with a couple high spots, hit them with paper. you can bring the shine back up with some lite compound.

if you've never done any woodworking, make sure this is a bass you don't care about in case it goes bad.
