epoxy on rosewood board

Sign in to disble this ad
Thinking of having an epoxy coat put on my fretless bass with a rosewood fingerboard so that I can use rounds.

A couple questions -

How much should this cost to have professionally done?

How will the change the sound?

There is a website for a guy called HG Thor that apparently does great work. Not sure what he charges.

But, it is not that difficult. I did mine myself a few months ago and it came out great. There are a bunch of threads here on TB that were very helpful.

Sound wise, I would say that it makes the instrument more mid-range and sharper. Its almost the same as with any finished board like a pedulla or rick.

Ive had great experiences with Envirotex lite. I cost $10 for the 8 oz pack and I just mixed it in a plastic cup and poured it on (after masking the neck with painters tape). A few hours later it was solid and I peeled the tape off ( so the runoff did not harden in place) and it was good to go within a day I believe. Ive wasted my money on lacquers and urethanes when 10 bucks got me a very hard, shiny and reflective finish for my neck. I wanted fretlines, so I went over where the frets were before my defret with a black sharpie. Wish I had pictures to show!
