essex (sx) tuner weight

Hello All,
I was considering lightweight tuners for my sx P bass due to the maple necks tendency to dive. Just for FYI sake I figured I would post the weight, as determined by our postal scale at work.

1 sx tuner is 2.9 ounces = 82.2136171 grams (without the bushing)

Was thinking of putting Gotoh GB640's on there which would save me 72 grams of weight. I just can't justify putting 80.00 tuners on a 100 dollar bass though

Not really asking anything, just letting anyone who wanted (or didn't want) to know the weight of these tuners. I guess it may have been more suited to the SX mega thread...

they are pretty heavy, and they dont feel as solid as something that heavy should.

Are you SURE of your math? You're claiming that the Gotoh tuners weigh only 10 grams. That can't be right. ("...which would save me 72 grams of weight...")

82-72 = 10. That would mean each tuner weighs only 2.5 grams. I don't think that's possible! Better re-calculate.

I did some similar math on Hipshot Ultralites and Fender tuners a while back, and I came up with a difference of about 3 oz. total between the sets. I think that's probably closer to being accurate in your case.

hmm i'm no astrophysicist but here's how I came up with that number

one sx tuner weighs 82 grams and one gotoh gb640 weighs 64 grams so you would save 18 g per tuner. (82-64)

18g per tuner lighter x 4 tuners = 72g lighter overall

Yep, they're heavy, permadave. I weighed 'em on an electronic postage scale and your number sounds familiar. I replaced them with some hipshot ultralites and saved about 30% on each tumer.
