Expensive finish?

Sign in to disble this ad
So I sent my new neck to a woodshop to be finished today (it came unfinished, figured it'd be chaper to have someone do it than pay the extra $80) and I was charged $65 for the job. Is it just me, or is that a little expensive to put finisher on a piece of wood?

It sounds fair to me. Depending on what finish was used, it could cost a lot more.

That sounds like a good deal actually. When you break down the cost cost of equipment (sprayer, compressor, guns, finish) a proper place to spray (shop) and the skills/time of someone who can make it all happen (dude) and whatever his rate per hour is (at least $20/hour) So if you think about all that and figure the time it took to do the job (figure three coats with a solid day's worth of drying time). Also have to include drying time as a portion of the expense (as in, your job is taking up space that could be used for other jobs so therefore time is money). $65 sounds like a very good deal. Of course you could have spent $6 for a can of poly at Home Depot and a brush for 89 cents.

if you got a quality finish job, you got a super deal. not only did you save $15, but you got it done cheaper in a more expensive part of the US.

all the best,

R

As long as the work was done well, it was a very fair price. Between materials and labor time, it could have been more.

Try to do it once, in your garage.... without all of the "professional" tools.

I think you'll agree that what you paid is an awesome price.

Post a pic of the neck when you get it back.
