Unhappy Extremely weird account of fret buzz...

Alright this is so puzzling guys.
New member here and I've had a search but can't find any situations like mine on the internet..

I recently bought a new guitar for a punk band of mine; Fender Jazz Bass.

I used to have another bass, however I got rid of it because of an obnoxious fret buzz on the E and A strings above the 12th fret.

For this band, I use a picking style - medium to heavy attack.

At first, my new bass was awesome, no real fret buzz at all, especially when amped up. However, after a few gigs and much practice, my bass now has the same problem as my old bass.

I treat my bass with respect and don't see why fret buzz would start now. Is this because of my picking technique? Can this increase permanent fret buzz on an instrument?

To give you an idea, the amount of fret buzz almost outweighs the note (unless i push ULTRA hard on the fret.)
Sorry for the long post, It's really killing me...

Cheers guys!

have it set-up.

or if you can DIY, just put some relief on the neck by loosing up the truss rod a wee bit. loosen till desired.

Thanks for the reply mate, appreciate it.

Is it possible for the setup to change on a bass without me changing anything directly? Like, just playing the bass normally?
I wasn't under the impression that the setup would change so drastically (from no fret buzz to full fret buzz..)

Ok, this can be easely fixed so do not worry. The fret buzz may come from two things:

1 Action may be too low for your touch. Usually lower action goes with lighter touch. So check your action.

2 One of the frets in the neck could indeed not be leveled with the others (in happens very often). In this case you need to see a luthier and he will level it.

In any case I advise you to bring your bass to a competent Luthier, tell him how you like to play it (hard touch) and he will set it up for a few boxes.

Remember that every small change in the set up of your bass will modify the overall equilibrium so be careful!

Yep. Especially with the change in weather to winter. I have to adjust my necks twice a year. Once in the spring and then once in the fall. Wood swells and changes with changes in humidity. Anyway, that's your problem. No big deal just take it to a guitar store and they can show you how to tweak the truss rod. 10 minute fix.
