I recently got this fbass, the neck is awesome, the tone is wickedly good. the body, not so great. the bass is 10 years old
the pictures can't really show it, but there's dings here and there, and I'm not fully satisfied with the green, so I was wondering where/how much it will cost, i can get it refinished.
I could do the sanding, even the staining, but i don't wanna screw up the clear coat.
basically it is just the body that needs to be refinished, the neck has no color on it, the neck looks great.
another question is, will having the body refinished devalue this bass? everything is original on it so far
also please PM me with what your estimated value on this thing is refinished vs untouched please |

I might just not even color it, just leave it natural once the stain is all sanded off, i like it better that way anyway,
ive never seen flamed swamp ash before though, i bet it would look pretty snazzy. |

Really there's only one brand of vintage bass that collectors don't wan't refinishes on (because of proof of originality), and I'm sure you know what brand that is. Nobody's trying to pass off fake F Basses or any other brand high-ends.
You should do a search in the basses forum, there have recently been two or three very good threads about refins, which places are good and links to them, and lots of great pictures posted. |

It's a fine instrument and it's worth seeing what he'd charge before deciding whether it's too expensive. Value is relative, of course, but if you are going to refinish, there's nothing like being able to say that the work was done by the same cat who built the bass originally.
It's worth a phone call or email thread, at the least. Who knows - you may be able to fit into an opening and it'll be a great win-win. At worst, you'll have a baseline (bass line? ) to discuss with other vendors. |

| | | | If anything, a refinish will increase the value. It's not like a classic Fender from the 60's that has historic value. There's nothing particularly 'special' about an older FBass.
The question is if it's worth $500 to make it a little prettier. I would definitely play it for a month or two to really make sure you like the bass. If you love everything about it, I would take the plunge (the original FBass finishes are horrible anyway). If not, out she goes! |

but i just wanna know, how much would I be able to get for a BN6 that has a new finish on it... the neck is practically brand new looking, the only things that would need polishing/buffing are the tuners and bridge... | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
