Fender Bridge Replacement Saddles - Graphite?

Sign in to disble this ad
One of the saddle height adjuster screws broke on my Fender bridge - it's a flathead type and the screw-head broke off while I was trying to raise it. So I need new saddles since I don't trust the remaining screws.

Is Graphite worth $25 extra? I'm looking for a stock P-bass sound, but if Graphite delivers that and keeps just one string from breaking it'd be worth it.

Replace the original screws with allen screws?

any hardware store, or any decent music store with a repair guy, or mcmaster-carr.

if it were me, i would just run a little light oil into the the rest of the screws and turn them a little so they don't rust up. a frozen hex screw will strip out more easily than a straight-slot screw anyway.

if you do buy new saddles, skip the soft graphite, and get yourself the cool vintage threaded-rod types. they're more stable by design, and let you get your string spacing just right.

Most hardware stores have a selection...just ask them when you go. And take a saddle with you to check the fit...and pick up an allen wrench that fits the screw while you're there.
