Fender headstock hole size?

Sign in to disble this ad
Are there any Fender basses (P or J) that have 9/16" tuning peg holes? I am looking at some pegs on e-bay and the guy says they fit standard Fender 9/16" holes. I have four Fenders and they all have 11/16" holes in their headstocks. I e-mailed the guy and asked him to measure the ferrule diameters at the press-ribs. So far, no answer, but I'm curious. I found nothing on several searches here about it. The pegs themselves are 9/16" (that wind the strings directly). I was thinking that was what he was saying, but he mentions the word "bore".
Thanks
Josh

I don't know the exact answer, but this may help a little. I found that vintage Fender tuners and ferrules from a 1969 P-bass fit perfectly on an MIJ '70s RI P-bass neck I got from Stratosphere.

However, while trying to find tuners, Stratosphere repeatedly assured me that the widely available MIJ '60s RI tuners would NOT fit on an MIJ '70s RI. I gave up my search and tried my vintage '69 tuners, which, as I said above, fit fine.

Sadly, both my spare P-bass necks, a '70s RI and a vintage '71 fretless P-bass neck, are packed away in moving cartons, so I can't measure them for you. My '71 P-bass with a '69 Fender neck is like-wise inaccessable.

Bottom line: There are differences in P-bass necks, but there doesn't seem to be much widely available info to help out those who are trying to combine some parts for repair or upgrade.
