Fender Jazz 24 Modification

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey, I play a Fender Jazz 24 4-String and am really interested in putting a pick guard on it. I know they don't make pickguards specifically for these basses but does anyone have any suggestions on a pickguard that may fit it correctly? Thanks a lot for the help!

One option is to to order clear adhesive PG material from Stew-Mac.com and use it - that way you won't cover up the nice woodgrain.

Well part of the reason I want a pickguard is to cover the finish.

Anyone have any input or information that may help me? I just want a pickguard that will fit properly on my Fender Jazz 24.

What?? That's crazy. Unless the finish is somehow ruined. The quilted maple top on mine is super nice:

+1 on the clear pickguard. If you don't care for the "boutique" top and want an active Jazz with a pickguard, get yourself a Jazz Deluxe.

Go to this website and print out a pickguard template. Cut the template out with scissors and see what does/does not fit.

Thanks a lot for the replies. I don't dislike the quilted top but I don't love it. Mine is a slightly different finish than the picture you posted, it's dark and fades into the quilted finish and I think it might look awesome to have the pickguard, but I'm gonna print out the templates and see how it looks. I really wish I could have a custom pickguard made, lol.

Thanks again for all the input and comments, it's much appreciated.

^^ What you have is the tobacco burst version, which is what I have (the pic is the cherry burst one). Yeah, though you could use the close to standard shapes of the upper and lower bouts as well as the upper rear of the jazz bass pickguard, you'll pretty much have to improvise on the lower rear as the control format is different from the standard JB pickguard. You might want to consider something like the Marcus Miller pickguards but with the control layout of that of the 24-fretter.

Having a custom PG made is really not that expensive. Make a full-scale tracing of what you want it to look like and mail it to WD Music or Chandler. They will call you and quote the cost. I would expect it to be less than $100 including shipping.

Trying to fit one that wasn't made for it is not going to look very good.

I was thinking that or a modified version of the Roscoe Beck PG.
