fender jazz-installing new neck

Sign in to disble this ad
ok i know this is gonna drive a lot of people nuts. but doing this myself in the only option. i went past broke the last Bush administration. i bought an 80's jazz body already built up. then bought a used after market (unknown make) neck. when the neck is tightly attached all the strings touch all the frets. (evenly) i can raise strings all i want, it won't be enough. i'm maxed out now. my inclination is to mill the neck down. i accept all help and reprimands. i'm broke- so i have to figure this out or get a wash tub & a longer string!!!!!!!!!!!!!please help-dave

The base is thicker metal than the original fender bridges, by a significant amount. This will probably raise your action enough to get clearance. Or maybe you could sell the neck on Ebay or here and get a Mity Mite neck that is the right one. Another option is to sand down or chisel out and sand the neck pocket of the body.

You can shimthe top part (headstock side) of the neck pocket and be fine.

Also make sure your truss rod nut isn't too tight and causing a back bow in the neck. I mention that because you said the strings are in contact with all the frets.
