Fender Jbass Bridge Issues

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a mex made fender j bass, whose bridge is so busted that I have a hunk of wood under it just so that it can be playable. So I got myself a new bridge from this other city, because you cant' get **** in ours. Now it turns out that this bridge, which resembles the hipshot 4 string bridge can not be aligned to the original holes for the screws. On top of that, the Fender bridge has 5 nuts and the new bridge has only 4. any ideas how i can make this terrible situation work?
Methinks drilling holes in body is not such a good idea.

Get a Badass II bridge, and since that is close to impossible nowadays, get a Gotoh 201. Both bridges use the same 5-hole mounting pattern of the bent-plate MIM/Squier bridges. Other than that, drilling new holes is your only bet if you plan on using that new bridge of yours. Oh yeah, I've seen generic copies of the Gotoh 201s and I would say they could be an economical option to consider (that is if you sell the new bridge of yours).

Well, considering that's how the original bridge was attached to the body, you might want to give it some more thought.

Your description and terminology are kind of murky--Busted/hunk of wood/5 nuts/4 nuts?

Ah, well, the bass is eight years old, and was the school bass, which meant pesky little buggers loved to paw it with their grubby little hands. It led to a situation where, by the time I could come to the rescue of the bass, It had a bent truss rod, the tuning pegs were gone, the bridge was unable to hold up the strings and the only way I could make it barely playable was by sanding a hunk of wood, and shimming it under the individual bridge sections and the base plate of the bridge.
The issue is with the incompatible screw hole positioning in the new bridge I procured. And as far as the truss rod, Well I am in India, and guitar techs are almost non existant, so I did all the repair, except the truss rod, which I do not trust my hands with. As I reach stateside this month, I plan to get it worked on soon.
