Fender MIM Deluxe 5 Replacement Neck Help

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a MIM Deluxe Jazz body w/ out a neck. I am in the market for a maple neck w/ a lined fretless ebony board (and preferably a 4+1 headstock).

from what i understand (fender.com, some after-market manufacturers), the original neck for this bass has 20 frets, and most companies (Warmoth, Moses, etc) have 22 fret boards. Some companies say that their necks will work, while others say it they won't...

Warmoth has told me yes and no. tonight, they said that their necks work w/ MIA Standard Jazz 5ers, which have 20 frets, so i am really confused.

Before i buy anything, i was hoping i could hear about other people's experiences w/ after-market necks for the MIM DJ 5, suggestions on other companies to try, etc.

Worst case scenario, i guess i get an unlined fretless and use my ears...

PS- Should this be in the Luthier forum or is Hardware, Setup & Repair the right spot?

Just be careful. Just because a replacement neck has the proper number of frets doesn't mean it will fit the heel route of your body.

I'd suggest you take detailed measurements then request Warmoth's measurements to be sure. They can give you 3 different answers depending on which 3 employees you talk to. Numbers don't lie, and if they're wrong about the numbers you have cause for return and refund.

so the link takes me to a rosewood/maple neck w/ 5 in-line tuners. i called the company, and they said it is a Mighty Mite neck. Next stop, get in touch with Mighty Mite to see if they will do a (lined) fretless ebony board, preferably w/ a 4/1 headstock..

i also tried contacting fender, but they need the original neck to issue a replacement, and there is no way they will do a custom job.

thanks for the replies so far.
