Fender MIM or US 79 Bridge (metal composition question)

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an '05 MIM Jazz that I have replaced the pups and it sounds really good and plays great. But I was just wondering if the metal composition is different in a 05 MIM bridge vs US 70's bridge? I have an old bridge from a P-bass and wonder if sound/tone would change any due to the way they were made. Other than the type of set screws they look identical.

The MIM bridge stays put and I have no problems with it but wonder if tone would change if the older one was installed?

Note: I tried this in the other forum first with no response, and yes I searched first.

Thanks

I've never experienced a bridge change that made one iota of difference in the before and after tone.

Thanks Pkr2. This is my general impression but wanted to hear it from the voice of experience.
I can't even say the sustain would be improved as this "cheap" bass has by far the best sustain of any I have.

You'll get some people who claim to hear a difference and others who claim it's all hogwash. Personally, if the saddles are steady and the sustain is fine, I'd keep the bridge. They're both similar Fender styles, not a whole lot of design difference. Whether or not Badass (or other high-mass) bridges make a difference is another debate (which we'll avoid in this thread! ).

I won't avoid it . I replaced a stock Fender bridge with a Badass and it was a significant improvement.

I finally did change the bridge and it made a noticeable tonal difference. It has a more mellow sound with no harshness/brittleness as before. Also installed my 1978 tuning keys as well. Good decision.

With respect, I suggest that it made a difference. Whether or not it made an improvement is a rather subjective opinion.
