Fender nut replacement - advice please

Sign in to disble this ad
A used P bass neck I purchased needs a new nut (rattling open A string). Is replacement as simple as removing the old one and gluing in a Fender pre-slotted nut? Tips, advice, warnings, etc. are appreciated.

Should be as simple as that. Are you replacing it on a rosewood board? Just pop it out, but you may leave a bit behind. An Xacto knife should take care of that.

As far as a maple board, or finished headstock, be sure to score both sides of the nut carefull to be sure you don't disturb the finish.

A TINY dab of Elmers white glue or wood glue.

Nothing too sticky, the strings will keep it in place.
