I recently got a vintage Precision bass off of someone on here. The bass is in wonderful condition, the only issue was the E slot on the nut was too worn down to hold a new string.
I went online and I bought the TUSQ replacement nut from Graph-Tech, and I just recieved it today. My issue is that when I replaced it, the nut was not wide enough to fill the width of the neck by about 1/8 of an inch.
Is this a normal occurence, or do I have a wider-than-average neck for where Precisions lie? I figured since it said Precision Replacement that it would fit.
Any help?

Updated: Just did a really specific measurement on both nuts. The original was 1.75in, the new one seems to be the more general 1.65in...is it possible to live with a nut .1" smaller than what the nut can take? Or should I cut myself my own to fit more specifically?
