Fender Precision pickup cover

Who makes this vintage type cover ? I ordered one on e-bay and it's not the same. I'm looking for the more squarer-shape vintage type. The one I got is rounder.

Yeah, they are pretty moldable. Just round it to your liking.

Every one of these covers I've seen ( including the CS basses )
is of the rounder type. Haven't had any luck finding one with
the correct squarer corners.

So, Fender couldn't find/use their original tooling?
These things aren't even close to the profile of the originals.

Are you seeking this type of pickup cover?

As opposed to this type?

Fender sells both. What am I missing?

Don't know if some companies still make them, but I have some coming from an old El Degas bass that are exactly the same. Maybe you can pick up some cheap used on eBay.

Did you actually look at the picture in his post?

The one he posted resembles the second one, however it is bent in a manner that makes it appear to be squarer.

It's almost like it is somewhere in between the two you posted.

Hi Jim,
What I was trying to say (rather poorly, I add) was that I have been
looking high and low for a proper reproduction of the pickup cover
shown in the OP's image. My current P has the std. Fender cover, (see
image below) and it's rounded / domed to the point that it really loses
that old school Fender design vibe. Yeah, I'm one of those players
that really cares about aesthetics, so it does bug me.

Conclusion:
The original '57 cover is different and looks much better.
Might be quite expensive to find one.

Thanks for all answers

I have one that is similar to the OPs profile on my Squier P. As I recall I got it from Allparts. I don't have a picture of it currently though.

Make sure you ask for a P-bass cover and not a Jazz bass. I'm not 100% sure but I think they are not exactly the same.

From what I see from your picture you need a reissue '58

To the OP's original question:

go here, then to Bass section, then scroll 1/2 way down to part #PCPB973C.

much closer to correct appearance than Fender's current cover.

Hope this helps.

For those of you that may not understand...Fender P basses from 1957 until approximately 1970 had pickup 'ashtray' covers that had very square corners. After that, they became very rounded. The OP is trying to find a 'reissue' of the proper squared pickup covers. The fender AV 57/62 Ps have the inaccurate rounded covers.

Has anyone tried one of these PU covers?

I emailed these guys and they said it's 1/8" wider than the Fender piece. I had an allparts that was way too wide and too thick and solid to bend to fit to a factory-drilled AVRI body. Would have probably worked well on a 5-stringer. Just don't want to be back in that same situation and have wasted money on such nonsense.
