Fender Truss Rod Tool

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey Folks,

I picked up a Road Worn P recently for the hell of it and the neck is equipped with the old style Phillips head truss rod end. Does anyone know where I can find a small bent/L shaped driver for adjusting instead of having to remove the neck?

Thanks.

you'll need to remove the neck regardless, unless you mod the body with a cutout like the american standard basses.

what you want is an "offset screwdriver" in any case.

You want a hollow-ground blade, not a Phillips.

Offset version ...

I use a tool for removing lids from paint cans. Cheap and it works!

Take a look at the angle and width of the tip - it's just right.

Thanks, gents. And, yes, the plan to route the body is already in the works...

if that's the case, look into wrangling an american standard bass truss rod nut, which should fit right on; it has a 3/16" allen hole, so a hex key can be chopped short so that it fits right in there.

i did that with my vintage reissue tele guitar, swapping out the truss rod nut for an american standard guitar nut with its 1/8" hex hole, and chopping off a 1/8" allen wrench so that it would fit in without having to remove the neck. (this is how john suhr guitars are designed, BTW.)
