Fender usa 5 string nut change?

I'm thinking of stringing my usa jazz bass 5 E to C,do you think i will have to change the nut?or can i get away with it.

My advice is to try it with the new strings. If it sounds okay leave it alone, if not, put a new nut in it.

I opened up the nut slots on a four-string for BEAD, and when I went back to EADG it worked fine without replacing the nut.
