THanks for the help with a silly question though! |
I once converted a stock bridge to string through by drilling through it on a drill press and installing ferrules on the back of the body.
It's exacting work to do a clean job and to get the ferrule holes to line up properly on the back, so it's not something to attempt without proper tools and experience. And you need to make sure the bridge can be modified this way first. I'd need a close up look at it first.
To get someone to do it for you in a shop could cost as much as the $200 Canadian you'd pay for a replacement bridge, but with the replacement there's still a lot of work to be done what with drilling through the body exactly and drilling larger holes for the ferrules.
Take a look at the Stewart McDonald website to see what they might have that'll fit. I haven't looked at their catalogue for some time so I'm not sure.
If you're not too concerned about keeping the really vintage look, Carvin has their version of a hipshot bridge for $46.99 plus $8 for ferrules (US) Figure in the difference in the dollar and shipping and handling and you should be under $100 Canadian. I have the Carvin string through bridge on one bass and i really like it.
Also, take a look at the Steamco website. They're in Winnipeg and keep adding to their catalogue. They may have something.
