Fender vintage vs Hipshot vintage bridges

I've decided to replace the BAII with a vintage type bridge on my Geddy Lee. Is there a difference between a Fender one and a Hipshot?

quick release and the grooves for the outside saddles to stay put are the main differences

I'm a fan of the vintage style bridges as well. I had a BAII on my p bass & did not like the effect it had on the tone.

The Hipshot is not available with a steel baseplate. The choices are brass or aluminum.

Yeah, I just did the same thing in reverse on a Highway One. That BA2 is a real tone killer. The vintage bridge made it come alive, much more resonant and punchy.

Regardless of everything, go with the SOUND of it.

+1

And cosmetics. Hipshot vintage has a more finished look because it was never intended to be under the 'ashtray' the way the Fender bridge was.

Not very attractive bridges, however (The fast-remove string slots are kinda of ugly, to me...)

I'd like to see someone sell a Lakland style bridge - they are dirt simple and low mass...

Never had a Badass that didn't crush. But on some basses they crush too much. I love 'em.

I wish they hadn't. It's a good feature, especially when you swap out strings and necks.

Function before form.

Wait! Can you get the spool end of the string through that big hole in the bottom? If so, I could change my mind.

Still, it doesn't look that big. I don't wanna have to buy it to try it.

Anyone know if that Hipshot will fit under a P Bass bridge cover?

i like that the vintage fender lets you tweak the string spacing.

I ordered a Fender version too soon. The E string saddle sometimes doesn't stay put if I pluck the string hard. This one goes back to the store and I'll order a Hipshot version.
