Finally got truss nut removed!

Sign in to disble this ad
A few weeks ago I purchased a used Fender neck from a fellow TB'er. He said the truss-rod nut was a little stripped but that it shouldn't be a big deal to fix. Well, when I finally recieved the neck I discovered that the truss nut was rounded out perfectly smooth. I tried several different allen wrenches and a few "screw remover" bits but none of them could get any bite. Last night I took one of my old Warwick truss-rod tools and removed its handle. Then I rubbed the end of it with metal epoxy and hammered it into the truss rod nut. When I got home this afternoon I crossed my fingers and gave it a twist. It worked!!!! The nut screwed right out and I can finally replace it. Thank goodness!

I was just so happy to get it out of there that I had to share. Perhaps this will help someone else eventually.

thanks for that tip... I've got a stripped truss-rod nut to remove and this looks like it might do the trick...

I am glad that I read this thread. I don't know if I will ever have to use that trick but it is nice to know. It could even come in handy out side of working on my basses.
