Fingerboard Replacement

I defretted a bass back in my dumber days, didn't have the benefit of that link in the defretting thread. i did a lousy job. the bass is a fender american standard jazz bass. could i have the fingerboard replaced? or could someone who really knows what they're doing still repair the fingerboard?

...it's going to be in the same ballpark as a replacement neck.

W/o photo, no way to tell how bad your fingerboard is.

i think i may go that route. are roundwound strings going to eat up my fretboard? are certain fretboard materials harder? like ebony? or do i need to switch to roundwound?
