Finishing a fretless fingerboard

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking to get more mwah out of my Yamaha RBX 270F fretless, so I'm thinking hotter pickups and roundwounds would be a start, but it has a rosewood fingerboard and I'd really rather not tear it up by using roundwound strings.

Is it possible to apply some kind of hard clearcoat finish to the fingerboard? Any suggestions or potential problems?

Have you considered CA glue?

Nope. I don't know anything about anything regarding finishing a fretless neck.

try lowering your action first and see if that gives you more mwah

Ok, so I did a search and learned myself a bit on epoxying the neck.
If it's already fretless to begin with, is there any need to re-radius after finishing, or just the regular sanding between coats?

I used a good poly-urethane, it seems to be hold up good so far

What did you use? I was thinking of spraying some PPG Deltron clear on my rosewood fingerboard but I have no idea how well it will hold up under long term abuse from rounds.
