okay instead of ordering the b55 from americanmusical.com i bought one here from a place with no returns. It sounds and plays well and i love how it looks. The only problem is after i slightly raised the action on the B string it is making a wierd metallic noise if i pick hard.It doesnt do it if i play the 6th fret while i hold the 4 th both on the B string.Any ideas and is this fixable?

The B string by nature has a larger vibration pattern than the other strings. This being said, you may need a neck adjustment to compensate somewhat. Think of the B string as looking at a woofer on a speaker cabinet. When the speaker is reproducing a higher frequency note there is very little movement of the basket on the speaker. With lower frequency notes the paper basket moves about 1/4" or so. The B string like the speaker has a larger pattern and that is the nature of reproducing that frequency.

my old jazz bass had a similar noise and my setup guy said the fret was "sparking out" and he sanded it down or something and it stopped.Could that be this basses problem?

As much as I would like to try to help you, I can't because no one can diagnose a particular noise without actually hearing the noise.

I can offer some generalities, but they are nothing more than throwing darts.

First off, since it only is happening on one sting and one fret, it could be a fret problem, although I wouldn't call fret interference "metalic" sounding. Of course descriptions of a sound are purely subjective.

Does it come through the amp?

It could also be the B string hitting the PUP pole peice.

Does it make the noise when you play it normally, rather than hard?

it does not come thru the amp and it happens every once and awhile when i play either way.Ive already eliminated the pickupd getting hit and have narrowed it down to the frets needing filed or neck needs adjusting.
