Major +1 here...it's amazing what a little lube on the adjustment nut can do for a truss rod. I would also definitely clean the threads on the rod and nut with a Q-Tip and some isopropyl alcohol before you put on the lube. I use 3 in 1 oil to lube TR nuts, but the lithium grease will probably last longer. Make sure to keep all solvents and lube away from the wood/finish!
You can also press on the back of the neck towards the strings as you tighten the rod to help it do its job better (you are basically pushing out some of the upbow by doing this during the adjustment so that the rod doesn't have to hold the neck in position
and push out the upbow).
OK, now that I've blabbed a bunch, what
do you mean by a stiff truss rod? lethargytartare poses several good questions.
