Fixed my dead spot!!!

Fender 4 string, typical dead spot on the 7th fret g-string. I replaced the 1 3/4" wood screws that hold on the neck with slightly wider 2" screws, problem solved! The dead spot was horrible, almost made me sell the bass, now it's 99% gone.

Very Interesting! It probably doesn't take much to change the frequency at which the neck resonates. I had experimented with clamping things to the headstock of my bass (similar to what a FatFinger would do) and heard a definate changes to sound, sustain, and a certain deadspot I have on my bass.
Funny that since the band has been downtuning 1/2 step, the spot had all but disappeared. It actually just moved up a fret, but still less noticeable.

Keeping my truss rod tension just a certain way seems to help alot. Moving the test clamp around on the headstock really made changes that I could hear instantly.

I got rid of the usual G string dead spot on my old P bass by using threaded inserts and machine bolts in place of the wood screws

Same theory behind it actually but a little more work

I had been toying with this idea for some time after talking to Hambone about inserts and such.

Did this mod actually get rid of it, or move the spot to a new note? Did you notice a difference in sustain or sound? I'm very curious..

It seems to have moved right off the neck or at least I can't find one anywhere I play

I didn't notice any change in sustain as I've always had plenty and there seemed to my ears to be just a very bit more tighter bottom

Very subtle if any

The neck certainly isn't going anywhere now
