Fixing the strap-holder

Sign in to disble this ad
Can anyone recommend a DIY way to fix the upper strap-holder?
The story is that the original one has fallen out and was lost. Another point is that my bass is older than me and kinda falls apart, and it needs to be handled with care. I thought about filling the hole with broken toothpicks and glue, then letting it dry, and then putting a screw in place... Any thoughts?

What I do is buy a package of Marine-Tex Epoxy, the kind that comes in two little tubes, and apply the epoxy into the strap-button hole with a toothpick, then screw the button back in.

Doesn't the epoxy bond to the screw, making it about useless when you do need to remove it?

The idea behind glue is that the glue bonds the toothpick to the body of the guitar, the screw then bites into the toothpick which is bonded to the body. Some people say to affix the screw with the glue wet, I say put in the toothpicks and glue, dry overnight, then install the screw and strap button.
