Fixing a strap holder quickly?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys,

I bought a bass off ebay a while ago, and lo and behold, one of the strap holders came off. Doh! The screw that held it in fell out slightly bent and doesn't stay in the hole at all.

Is there an easy way to fix this? I was going to rehearse with this bass in a couple of days, so I'm not sure what to do with it. I'm very broke, so I can't afford to take it anywhere, but my dad works in maintenance so I can get basic tools if I need them.

Any ideas?

Many thanks, TB!

Easiest fix in the world, but ya gotta get another screw if that's bent. Either in a hardware store, or a local music store will probably give you one for free if you ask nicely.

Jam a toothpick or 2 into the hole, and then rescrew in the strap button along with the toothpick. You can add some glue too if you like but it's usually not necessary.

matchsticks work as well.

1 - shove the toothpick or match in
2 - break it off where it comes out of the hole
3 - screw strap button
4 - rock out

Fantastic! I heard about this ages ago, but forgot about it completely

Will this hold foreverish, or just for a while?

Thanks a bunch

My strap buttons were loose, and I took a strip of paper the same length as the screw hole, and maybe about 2 to 3 times as wide, and rolled it into a tube. Jam that into the hole and screw the strap button back in. Worked for me, they haven't unscrewed themselves yet.

For BEST repair - put a little white glue on the toothpick before you put it in the hole. It will be there for life and part of the bass.

I've put a matchstick in the one of my guitars about 5 years ago, and it's held since
