Floppy B

My 5 fretless sounds great up and down the neck with the exception of a buzzy B-string. There is minimal, but some relief in the neck ... probably a little less than a credit-card's thickness. The other strings are 3/32s or less. The B is much higher. What gives?

thanks joshua ... any particular recommendations? I think what I'm using (Labella tapewound) is a .128.

It will look pretty silly to put a new silver-colored string alongside my tapewounds, if that's all I replace, but so be it!

D'addrio XLs have a great B. i have quite a low string setup with them, with relatively little relief.

try a single .135 XL

Without complicating this deal...just consider that your B is not properly seated in the nut. It is rocking like a babies spring loaded rocking horse becuase the nut slot is rounded, or the angle isn't cut right or it just plain needs to be forced to behave in the nut slot...and the bridge saddle as well...lest we forget the other end? If...the string rocks and isn't molded into the expertly cut (imagine...a scene from Kung Fu) slots, then a B string will rock and require higher action. A credit card is enough relief, something else is wafting around that could be easily fixed. How??? Get down under there with a magnifying glass and good light (remember the 3-Stooges) "For Duty and Humanity!" Good luck.

Hmm ... so what should I be looking for ... how would I remedy the situation?
