foam for pickups

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm curious where I can get some of this stuff. not necessarily online, but places around town. I'm not quite sure how to describe it, either. I usually ask for "foam", but not sure how I should describe it further, or if that's what it's called.

any help?

Try a local hobby shop, or arts and crafts store (JoAnn Fabrics, Michaels, A.C. Moore).

Just snag a used mouse pad and razor out what you need.

I'd also use weatherstripping from the local hardware store. Just the right density.

Man-o-day...lots of great inexpensive options! Instead of springs, you can also use narrow diameter silicone or latex rubber tubing slipped over the screws themselves. IIRC, this is a stock feature on Dingwalls.

Just an expression like "holy cow!"....only some folks are offended by the casual use of "holy" and the vegans cringe when they hear "cow".

Hope the project goes well. If you need some real pickup mounting foams, I have an extra set I'll sell you...cheap...and with free shipping.

I've found that pick and pull foam little blocks from microphone, etc cases works great also. Just enough bounce to keep pickups pushed up, but not overly stiff.

Home Depot

Home Depot carries the black rubber 1/2" weatherstripping for windows that has a peel & stick adhesive on one side - exactly the foam you're looking for.

The silicone tubing spoken of in this thread is available at Radio Control model hobby shops. Ask for Silicone Fuel Tubing. They sell several inside diameters by the foot.

I'll concur with this. That foam weatherstripping with the adhesive back came in quite handy putting some Duncans into my P bass. The stock foam had compressed too much, but two little strips of that and I was golden.

ah, gotcha. I'll head up to home depot here in a bit, in that case.
