folk style guitar strap

Sign in to disble this ad
i've had a lot of issues with neck dive on my bass, and heard people on TB mention using folk style guitar straps, where they stretch from the butt pin to the headstock. i've never actually seen a real picture of someone doing it, however. can anyone help?

and so far the straps that i've seen have those click-locks, which i wouldnt feel comfortable about for holding up my bass. is there a strap that has a belt loop at the end? should i be looking for dobro straps instead?

and are there any consequences for the instrument? it seems like there could be a problem with sideways pull on the neck.

some old Fenders used to have a strap button on the back of the headstock, if I recall correctly

On the back of Fenders (I dont know if the new ones have it) there is a strap button type thing on the side opposite the string tree. I decided one day to put the strap on that to see how it played.

Its like giving your bass a bad set up and it sounds terrible. I'm sure you can have it set up where it works like that, but I don't see any benefit to that.

Most times when you buy a guitar strap new from a store they have a shoe lace sorta deal on one end. This is so acoustic guitarists can tie the strap around your headstock. My experience with warwicks is that they're heavy as hell. I don't recommend this either.

Just loop a shoelace under the strings behind the nut and through the hole in the strap, then tie it in a nice, secure reef knot. It's what I do on my acoustic guitar because it only has one strap button, and I don't fancy drilling holes in it.

Sort of the same idea as this:

but a shoelace is just as effective, and much cheaper!
