Four strings body is cracking at neck

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a four string that was my first bass and the body where the neck bolts on is starting to crack. I was wondering what the best course of action was to repair it. It isn't an expensive bass, but it was my first bass and I would like to keep it around to play on and what not for a few more years. I am not sure what info anyone would need to give a good suggestion, but I will provide any info that anyone needs. Thanks for any information that you can provide.

I think it would be best to throw up a picture. Then we could probably help you out

Hi.

A third vote for a pic.

My 2 guesses would be:

#1 A hairline crack in the paint = perfectly normal on budget instruments, cosmetic, not much that can be done.

#2 The humidity changes making the neck pocket crack = unusual, but not unheard of.

Regards
Sam

I'll post a pic up in the morning or tomorrow sometime.

What sucks most is, it was in a good condition then my former room mate took it upon himself to mess with my setup, both all the hardware on the bass (bridge, tress, etc) and the rest of my equipment, which my cab now makes a rattle noise at certain points, but that looks like a screw needing to be tighter. The neck had started to bow and I think that is part of the reason it started to crack.

Like I said, I will throw some pics up and let you guys see. Thanks for all the thoughts thus far.
