fret buss on 5ths

Hello forums!

I've got a problem with my cruiser bassguitar, fender jazzbass replica.

Whenever I play a note on the fifth fret, the strings buzz against the frets. This happens more or less on all strings, but I notice it the most on the g-string, since the note barely sustains on the fifth fret of the g-string. I've raised the action quite a bit - it did improve somewhat, but it's still there too much to be ignored. I've found that I can actually lower the action pretty far without other notes beeing affected, only the fifth is the problem. I cannot see anything differences visually on this fret.

Now my question is, why only the fifth fret, no matter what I do? I've sighted the neck to be a tad up-bow, but is adjusting the shape of the neck really a good solution to this fret-buzzing?

Any help is deeply appreciated!

You could have a dent in your G string.

Thanks for the reply, but the fretbuzzing is significant on the other strings aswell. No dents.

Add a little more "bow" to your neck and see if that helps.

agreed, and also might be a bad 6th fret.

or a low 5th fret...

On one of my basses, I had a 3rd fret that was extremely low...after two successive fret dressings it's MUCH better, but still not "perfect"...
