Fret buzzing, frets 1-5. Especially 5.

So Yesterday I noticed annoying fret buzz on my Kramer bass, which was really bad on the 5th fret. It seemed have come out of nowhere. Frets 1-4 have some buzz, but the 5th fret is really bad. 6th and up are perfectly fine. I'm thinking it could use a truss rod adjustment maybe? But I'm not sure which way to turn it, as I am a n00b when it comes to truss rods. But maybe something else is wrong though.

Thanks in advance!

sounds like the truss rod is too tight. have you recently changed strings to a lighter gauge, or has the bass been exposed to weather changes? these things can cause the neck to do funny things, and a truss rod adjustment should be done in only 1/4 turn increments and wait about day inbetween adjustments. Sounds like you need to loosen yours and you probably have a fret that needs dressing. if you're like most of us and play in the E and A key, that fret may be taking a beating if you have some "clank" in your playing style. Check the "set-up" threads at the beginning of this section/forum for more detailed advice on the truss rod and action adjustment. Good luck.

No just got the bass almost two months ago and haven't changed the strings yet. I just loosened the truss rod and still have buzz, so I'm going to see what it's like tomorrow. Thanks for the help, man!
