Fret dressing supplies in the UK?

Sign in to disble this ad
I want to level the frets on an old Ibanez guitar and a bass that I built.

I saw something like this on ebay

Its around $56 including shipping from america.

Apparently its a precision made straight edge with a sanding edge on it. But I think it just looks like a piece of metal with some sandpaper stuck to it(But I guess its pretty straight).

I'd be willing to pay that money if it will work, but I'm a bit unsure.

Firstly, is there anywhere that sells this kind of thing in the UK?

Secondly, If not, can I just make one myself providing I can find a long roll of sandpaper (What grit?) and a straight metal edge?

I bought a metal carpenters level/straightedge and stuck some 400 grit wet n dry paper to it with carpet tape. Did the job wonderfully.

Make sure you get one of a decent lenght though so you can sand the whole length of the neck in one movement, or else you'll be sanding in smaller areas making them still uneven.

Another tip here is to brush the tops of the frets first with a marker pen. As long as the neck is perfectly straight before you begin, when all the ink has been sanded off the frets should be even.

But take it slowly, checking after every couple of strokes, and don't mind you don't don't knock the nut off like I did... twice. Although that's not a bad thing, at least you can make nice long even strokes.
