Fret noise question

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Fullerton Deluxe 5 string bass that I really like however I feel sometyhing needs adjusting. I am playing Sadowosky flats and when I play I often hear a clicking noise when changing notes like possibly off of the next fret. My MM pickup is hot and when I fret a string like on the fith fret and I push down slightly on the string in the playing are it picks up a clicking noise. In a way sounds like the strings are hitting the pickups but their not. It's not that bad when playing and in a way it gives a distinctive sound like my other basses dont have. Anyway any suggestions thought about adjusting the neck. Thanks for advice.

do you have any treble frequencies that are highly exaggerated?
i own a stingray with the ceramic magnets in the Pickup and digging in too much directly over the pickup causes a similar noise, even though the string is not making contact with the pole pieces. however, playing away from the pickup significantly reduces such noise and with no sacrifice in tone.

I have the treble set in the mid and the bass set just pass mid. It sounds just like the strings are hitting the poles as you described. Thanks for the suggestion I will make the adjustment

Clicking

I agree with the other posters - you likely have trebles and mids set too high. Also, your action is probably set too high. Use you truss rod and/or bridge adjustments to lower the action.

Good luck.
