Fret width question.

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, im currently working on de-fretting my Rogue LX400 beater, and was wondering; what is the standard width of the fret slot? Is it 1/32"? If it isn't, does anyone have any clue what the width would be?

Thanks

Stew Mac recommends .023" for their fretwire. 1/32 is .031" and a bit too wide.

To make a lined fretless? You just have to make sure the wood you use is the same thickness as the saw you clean the fret slots with. So a 1/32 blade and some 1/32 veneer will work just fine. You may have to very lightly sand the veneer to smooth it to get it to slide into place but it will come out great. Since the bumps on the fretwire tang will cause the slot to look all rippled cleaning the slot with a slightly wider saw kerf will make things look neater.
