fretboard radius

I bought a '75 Fender jazz bass RI, and I'm having trouble with the setup, getting lots of fret buzz, especially when I bend the strings. I've had it setup professionally and still the same. I would say that my action is medium, although I'd like it lower, but when I try to lower it, I get too much buzzing. It seems that the older fenders, with the smaller radiuses (7.25") are prone to this. Is this true? If so, how do pros like Marcus get such clean sound when they bends strings on old Fenders?
